Easter Chick Sugar Cookies

Yields: One dozen decorated cookies

Ingredients:

  • Your favorite recipe for sugar cookies (we used a box mix)
  • 8-10 oz. yellow fondant
  • 3-4 oz. orange fondant
  • 1-2 oz. black fondant
  • 1 egg-shaped cookie cutter, about 2 x 3 inches in-size
  • 1 circle cookie cutter, about 2 inches in diameter
  • Paintbrush and a small bowl of water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven according to your cookie’s directions and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

2. Roll out your cookie dough so that it’s about ¼ of an inch in size. Cut out 12 egg-shapes with your cookie cutter. (If you have any cookie dough leftover, be sure to wrap in plastic and refrigerate for later use!)

3. Bake according to recipe’s directions and allow to cool completely before decorating.

4. Roll out your yellow fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch in size. Cut out 12 egg-shapes.

5. Press a yellow fondant egg-shaped piece on each cookie.

6. Roll out your yellow fondant again and cut out 12 circles with your cookie cutter.

7. Cut each yellow circle in half.

8. Place one each side of your cookie – these demi-circles will act as your chick’s wings.

9. Roll out 12 spheres from your orange fondant, about ½ an inch in size.

10. Flatten each orange sphere slightly, pointing one end. These will act as your chick’s beaks.

11. Roll out 24 spheres from your black fondant – about ¼ of an inch in size. These will act as your chick’s eyes.

12. Assemble your chick’s face with the eyes and beak. Brush the back of each piece with a little bit of water in order for the fondant to stick to each other.

13. With your remaining yellow fondant, roll out small strips to act as your chick’s little fur strands at the top of its head.

Now it’s time to set them out for everyone to enjoy!
